The Northside Christian Lions will venture away from home to challenge the Fisher Catholic Irish at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Northside Christian has given up an average of 18.1 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Northside Christian's offense. They came up short against Madison Christian two weeks ago, falling 15-0. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Fisher Catholic had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it nine on Monday. They never let the Flames get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. Considering the Irish have won nine games by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Lauren Kersell made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Kersell was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Brue, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Beauseau, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Fisher Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Fisher Catholic pushed their record up to 15-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Northside Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Northside Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 12.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Fisher Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
