The Deerfield Spartans entered their tilt with the Granada Bobcats with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Deerfield sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 46-43 win over Granada on Monday. Winning is a bit easier when you make five more threes than your opponent, as Deerfield did.
Deerfield found their leader in underclassman Cristian Botello, who scored 19 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Botello has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Colten Musil, who scored ten points.
When it comes to explaining why Granada lost, one person who can't be blamed is Maddox Coleman. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 58.1% of Granada's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jonus Guevara, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Deerfield has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-9 record this season. As for Granada, their loss was their ninth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-12.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Deerfield will take on Western Plains at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Deerfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Monday. As for Granada, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bethune at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Granada is facing Bethune at the right time seeing as Bethune is stuck on a 14-game losing streak.
