Port Charlotte has enjoyed the comforts of home their last seven games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on The Island Coast Gators at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Port Charlotte knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Island Coast likes a good challenge.
Port Charlotte can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. They claimed a resounding 49-10 victory over Parrish Community at home. Given Port Charlotte's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 87th, while Parrish Community is ranked 219th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Edd Guerrier was a one-man wrecking crew for Port Charlotte as he rushed for 170 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.0 yards per carry. Guerrier is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last five games he's played. Ifeany (Ike) Perry was another major influence, as he rushed for 90 yards and ran in a TD.
Port Charlotte's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Parrish Community's QB won't forget Samuel Luther anytime soon given Luther sacked him five times.
Meanwhile, Island Coast fell victim to North Fort Myers' stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They took a serious blow against the Red Knights, falling 42-0. Island Coast's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Port Charlotte's win was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 Southeast and 2-7 Riverdale (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 36.1% over those games). As for Island Coast, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's match: Port Charlotte has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 372 total yards per game. It's a different story for Island Coast, though, as they've been averaging only 211.1 per game. Will Port Charlotte be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will Island Coast flip the ?
