Baseball Recap: Cottondale Takes a Loss

After flying high against Ponce De Leon last Monday, Cottondale came back down to earth. The Cottondale Hornets fell just short of the Christian Academy of Knoxville Warriors by a score of 7-5 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Hornets have suffered since March 19, 2024.

Conner Barton was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Barton was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Barton wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Alex Bellamy, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Cottondale's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Christian Academy of Knoxville, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-2-1.

Coming up, Cottondale will challenge Knoxville Central at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Christian Academy of Knoxville, they will take on Ridgeview in a tournament on Wednesday. Christian Academy of Knoxville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
