Yuba City and Vista del Lago are an even 4-4 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Honkers will square off against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Yuba City is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.
Yuba City is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They came out on top against Ponderosa by a score of 4-1.
Brandon Pelechowicz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Pelechowicz was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run.
Pelechowicz wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cesar Guizar, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
Meanwhile, Vista del Lago beat El Capitan 7-2 on Wednesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.
Vista del Lago also got a great performance from Jacoby Jones as he struck out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts Jones has posted since back in March.
At the plate, Tyler Bolyard was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Asher Taylor was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Yuba City pushed their record up to 24-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for Vista del Lago, their record now sits at 18-11.
Yuba City took their victory against Vista del Lago in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 11-0 score. Will the Honkers repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
