Cataryna Schreiber made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mya Western, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Emily Burgreen, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Madison Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Colbert Heights couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell 3-0 to the Panthers on Monday. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Wildcats were not able to get on the board.
Madison Academy's win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 28-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Colbert Heights, their loss dropped their record down to 33-15.
Madison Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Colbert Heights in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 4-0. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
