Lafayette has gone a perfect 10-0 against Water Valley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Lafayette Commodores will be playing at home against the Water Valley Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Lafayette's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on South Pontotoc with a sharp 9-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Commodores.
Tanner Harris made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. What's more, he also gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base. What's more, he also posted three hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
In other pitching news, Brett Williams looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero).
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Max Roberts, who went a perfect2-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (two). Another player making a difference was Caleb Guest, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Water Valley was able to grind out a solid win over Myrtle on Tuesday, taking the game 4-0.
Like Lafayette, Water Valley also got a great game from a two-way player: Allen Paysinger. He didn't allow a single earned run and only a hit over six innings pitched. Paysinger was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run.
Paysinger wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Isiah Webb, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Lafayette's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Water Valley, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
Lafayette took their victory against Water Valley in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 24-10. Does Lafayette have another victory up their sleeve, or will Water Valley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
