Sacramento Metropolitan Athletic League recap October 8, 2013
Delta led Sacramento Metropolitan Athletic League in scoring this week after putting up 33 points on Valley Christian.
The Lions' dynamic duo of Micah Gunter and Cameron Woodside proved tough for the Saints to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Gunter threw for 223 yards and 3 touchdowns and Woodside had 150 yards receiving. Grant Woodside helped Valley Christian's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 63 yards.
Chase Canevari was a key player and the best on defense this week as Woodland Christian lost to Elliot Christian. The 6-foot-3 senior recorded 1 fumble.
Woodland Christian's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Cardinals feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Anthony Castaneda has thrown for 752 yards and 14 touchdowns this season, while Kameron Arnold has 11 catches for 290 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Delta takes on Foresthill. At the moment, Mick Pettengill's team is in third, while the Wildfires are in second.
The longest pass in the league this week was acheived by Valley Christian's Gunter. He connected with Woodside on a 76-yard throw and catch as Todd Conroy's team fell to the Saints.
