Matoaca has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Stone Bridge Bulldogs at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Matoaca extended their postseason success on Friday against Fleming. They blew past the Colonels, posting a 42-3 victory at home. Matoaca's win was all the more impressive since Fleming was averaging only 16.62 points allowed on the season.
Among those leading the charge was Montino Williams jr, who rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry.
Another reason for the win was Matoaca's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Fleming's QB won't forget Jaedin Lee anytime soon given Lee sacked him twice.
Meanwhile, Stone Bridge came tearing into Friday's match with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 38 points) and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against Briar Woods as Stone Bridge made off with a 29-6 win.
Stone Bridge's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brandon Pena, who threw for 120 yards and two touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes. Troy Marquez and his 90 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Stone Bridge's win.
Matoaca is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. As for Stone Bridge, they have yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 7-4-1 record.
