This season hasn't been kind to the Ignite Athletics Flames, who are still winless after their eighth match. They received a tough blow on Saturday as they fell 56-41 to Rose Hill Christian. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Ignite Athletics came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 119th in West Virginia, while Rose Hill Christian is ranked 283rd in Kentucky).
Despite the loss, Ignite Athletics still got an impressive performance from Braxton Stricklin, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Sam Webb, who scored nine points.
Ignite Athletics bumped their record down to 0-8 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight at home. As for Rose Hill Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 2-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ignite Athletics will square off against Varsity Opponent at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Rose Hill Christian's road trip will continue as they head out to face Elliott County at 7:30 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Elliott County has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
