Mendota started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 24-26, 25-6, 25-7, 25-20.
Meanwhile, Avenal got the win against Firebaugh on Tuesday by a conclusive 3-0. The Buccaneers haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
While Avenal won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the third set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-9, 25-16, 25-23.
Avenal had a senior duo take command as Guadalupe Santillan had nine kills, four digs, four blocks, and four aces and Yasmin Garcilazo had nine aces and three digs. Those nine aces set a new season-high mark for Garcilazo.
Avenal was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 25 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in October of 2024.
Avenal's win bumped their record up to 14-12-2. As for Mendota, their loss dropped their record down to 1-18.
