Waterloo and Marshall are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Pirates will be playing at home against the Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Waterloo is returning home triumphant after the team finally put their road woes behind them against Belleville on Tuesday. The Pirates put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 16-8 win. The victory continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won seven in a row.

Ally Schaumann spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Callie Davison, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-6. The team also got some help courtesy of Nikomi Sullivan, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Marshall). Everything went their way against Wisconsin Heights on Tuesday as they made off with an 11-1 win. The Cardinals not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 15, 2024.
Kennedy Weisensel made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Weisensel was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Marshall let Sydney Stuntebeck and Kierstin Hoel run wild. Stuntebeck scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Hoel scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Lyliane Browne, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Marshall was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Marshall's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Waterloo, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Waterloo came up short against Marshall when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 7-3. Will the Pirates have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
