The Hampton Hawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. The game between Hampton and Lawrence-Nelson wasn't particularly close, with Hampton falling 53-38. Hampton was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Lawrence-Nelson apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2017.
Hampton's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nevaeh Lukassen, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Lukassen scored a full 44.7% of Hampton's points, the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Gavin Gilmore was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 11 rebounds and eight blocks.
Hampton's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 1-7. As for Lawrence-Nelson, their victory bumped their record up to 2-5.
Hampton and Kenesaw will round out the year against one another at 5:00 p.m. on Friday at. Hopefully Kenesaw focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Monday. Lawrence-Nelson will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on McCool Junction at 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024.
