The Cherry Creek Bruins will head out on the road to face off against the Grandview Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cherry Creek is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
Last Friday, Cherry Creek faced Arapahoe in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Cherry Creek walked away with a 24-14 win over Arapahoe.
Brady Vodicka and Jordan Herron were among the main playmakers for Cherry Creek as the former rushed for 41 yards and a touchdown and the latter rushed for 203 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Herron was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards. Cherry Creek also got help from Max Lovett who showed off his sure hands for 94 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought game, but Grandview had to settle for a 23-21 loss against Cherokee Trail on Friday.
Despite their loss, Grandview saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Liam Szarka, who rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 148 yards and a touchdown, was perhaps the best of all. Chris Blanks was another key contributor, rushing for 80 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Even if they lost, Grandview's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Leading the way was Brandon Kahre and his two sacks.
Cherry Creek's win was their 13th straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-0. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 11-2 ThunderRidge and 11-3 Valor Christian (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 62.9% over those games). As for Grandview, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3.
Cherry Creek couldn't quite finish off Grandview in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 and fell 24-21. Can Cherry Creek avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
