The Midlothian Trojans will take on the Matoaca Warriors on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Midlothian comes in on 13 and Matoaca on 18.
Midlothian is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Clover Hill 3-2.
Erika Fiege made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April.

Fiege wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Erin Lowe, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave Lowe a new career-high. Another was Josie Renschler, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Matoaca got the win against Franklin County on Tuesday by a conclusive 8-1. Considering the Warriors have won 17 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Midlothian, Matoaca also got a great game from a two-way player: Kaylee Hodges. She struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Hodges was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Abby Davis was excellent, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Raven Crabtree was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Midlothian's victory bumped their record up to 19-3. As for Matoaca, their win bumped their record up to 22-1.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Midlothian has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Matoaca struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 0.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Midlothian skirted past Matoaca 2-0 in their previous meeting back in June of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
