It was a good run, but the Broughton Capitals unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They received a tough blow as they fell 73-55 to Cardinal Gibbons. While losing is never fun, Broughton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 205th, while Cardinal Gibbons is ranked 65th).
Despite the loss, Broughton still got an impressive performance from Jordan Page, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Page has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Harrison Peatross, who scored ten points.
Broughton struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Cardinal Gibbons' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cash McSweeney led the charge by dropping a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. McSweeney is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last seven games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Smalls, who scored 18 points.
Broughton's defeat dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Cardinal Gibbons, they pushed their record up to 14-5 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Broughton will head out on the road to take on Sanderson at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Broughton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Tuesday. As for Cardinal Gibbons, they will head out on the road to face off against Leesville Road at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Cardinal Gibbons is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 61.8 points per game this season.
