Basketball Recap: Piney Woods Skates Past Mount Olive with Ease

Piney Woods won the last time they faced Mount Olive and things went their way on Friday too. The Piney Woods Tornadoes breezed by the Mount Olive Pirates to the tune of 51-16. The Tornadoes have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 22 points or more this season.

Leading Piney Woods to victory were Kemet Ziem and Jayden Banyi. Ziem went 6 for 9 on his way to 14 points along with five boards and three steals, while Banyi went 7 of 14 en route to 18 points and three steals. Banyi is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Natan Malinowski was another key player, putting up eight points and six rebounds.

Piney Woods has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.8 points per game. As for Mount Olive, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11.

Coincidentally, Piney Woods and Mount Olive will both be playing Leake County the next time they take the court. Mount Olive will head out to face Leake County at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, while Piney Woods will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
