CHANDLER, Ariz. - After seven lead changes,
Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) took the lead for good when
Jalen Johnson ran for a touchdown with under a minute left in the fourth quarter and held on to upset
Basha (Chandler, Ariz.) 31-24 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Aj Thigpen, the Bears went into halftime with a 17-14 lead. The Huskies took the lead for good with a touchdown run by Johnson in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring zero points in the third, Hamilton still trailed by 3 points going into the fourth quarter. But 17 points in the fourth helped HHS pull out the victory.
Basha's
Nate Phillips played well. The senior ran for two touchdowns. His performance brought his touchdown total to 14 on the year.
Johnson stood out for the Huskies in the win. The senior ran for two touchdowns.
When the two teams played each other last season, Hamilton came away with a 44-14 victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for Basha, which notched a 34-14 victory over Perry in its previous outing.
In a non-conference game next week Hamilton (7-2) takes on Corona del Sol, and Basha (6-3) will go up against Maryvale also in a non-conference game.
