After a string of three wins, the Pickens Academy Pirates's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Southern Academy on the road and fell 52-25. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Pickens Academy has scored all season.
Southern Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Abby Sluder out in front who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Sluder set a new season high mark in blocks with eight. Another player making a difference was Madeline Chapman, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Pickens Academy's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Southern Academy, they pushed their record up to 8-0 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pickens Academy will finish 2023 at home by hosting Sparta Academy at 2:30 p.m. on December 28th. Hopefully Sparta Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Saturday. Southern Academy will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Patrician Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024.
