The Cullman Bearcats on the road again on Monday and play against the Decatur Heritage Christian Academy Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on January 15th.
While it was all tied up 27-27 at halftime, Cullman was not quite Oxford's equal in the second half on Tuesday. Cullman took a 72-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of Oxford. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Meanwhile, Decatur Heritage Christian Academy waltzed into their match on Thursday with five straight wins but they left with six. They strolled past Holly Pond with points to spare, taking the game 53-35.
Decatur Heritage Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Leslie Hames led the charge by dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Hames is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Genie Mcghee, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Cullman has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season. As for Decatur Heritage Christian Academy, they pushed their record up to 18-3 with that victory, which was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season.
Cullman couldn't quite finish off Decatur Heritage Christian Academy when the teams last played back in January of 2023 and fell 47-45. Can Cullman avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
