1A Conference 5 recap September 4, 2013
Atkins was the team made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from sixth to third in 1A Conference 5. Atkins defeated Pine Lake Prep 27-20 earlier in the week.
East Surry moved up to 134 from 187 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Cardinals climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Starmount 27-6.
John Dickenson and Lucas Koons gave East Surry a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Dickenson threw for 48 yards, while Koons ran for 115 yards. Teammate JT Lichtenberger added to the ground attack by rushing for 21 yards.
Dickenson and Koons gave David Diamont's team a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week.
Koons was the most successful running back in the league this week.
Dickenson put up the best numbers in passing as the Cardinals bested the Rams.
HORTON CALEB was the best receiver in 1A Conference 5 this week as Mount Airy fell to Thomasville. CALEB racked up 5 receptions for 57 yards.
Koons was a passing and rushing force as East Surry topped Starmount.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Bears' LOGAN HOLDER and CALEB have proven to be a lethal combination. HOLDER has thrown for 146 yards this season, while CALEB, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 7 catches for 72 yards. Koons from the Cardinals leads the league in rushing with 281 yards.
Walkertown took down Kestrel Heights 55-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
