The Carbondale Terriers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 45-44 to Herrin. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Carbondale in their matchups with Herrin: they've now lost three in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Carbondale lost, one person who can't be blamed is Decarl Payne. Despite the final result, he scored 27 points. Payne scored a full 61.4% of Carbondale's points, the eighth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jaxon Marlow-evans, who scored six points.
Carbondale has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season. As for Herrin, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Carbondale will play host again and welcome Metro-East Lutheran, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Metro-East Lutheran will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 560th, while Carbondale is ranked 183rd). As for Herrin, they will be playing at home against Murphysboro at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
