Football Recap: Jefferson Victorious

Jefferson proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 35) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Pittsburg Pirates 32-29. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldogs have posted since November 1, 2024.

Tre Moss went supernova, rushing for 105 yards, while also picking up 34 receiving yards and one touchdown. Travis Gray Jr did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 88 receiving yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Jefferson was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 221 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Another reason for the win was Jefferson's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 3.5 sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Kobin Tomlinson, Markevion Tatum, and Decorian Blanton, who each picked up one sack apiece. Tomlinson was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 17 total tackles.

Pittsburg's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Seven Duffey, who picked up 80 receiving yards and one TD, and also rushed for 72 yards and one score. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 81 yards. Another player making a difference was Kord Johnson, who threw for 208 yards and three touchdowns on only 16 passes.

Jefferson's record now sits at 3-1. As for Pittsburg, their loss was their first of the season and also makes their record 3-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jefferson will welcome Gladewater at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bears' defense has only allowed 11 points per game this season, so the Bulldogs' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Pittsburg, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Dallas Christian at 7:00 p.m.
