Two dominant guards in Joshua Harden and Bahji Daniel are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Westside Seminoles will head out on the road to face off against the Spalding Jaguars at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Westside has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Even though West Laurens scored an imposing 57 points on Tuesday, Westside still came out on top. Westside took their game against West Laurens 67-57. Given Westside's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 167th, while West Laurens is ranked 462nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Westside got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Chauncey Williams out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds. Williams has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Cam Rembert, who scored 17 points.
Spalding lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the defeat they were handed on on Tuesday was a bit more commanding. They were beaten by Baldwin 86-32. Spalding was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 59-18.
Westside is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. As for Spalding, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-9.
Westside took their win against Spalding when the teams last played back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 58-34. The rematch might be a little tougher for Westside since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
