On Thursday, the Georgetown Day Mighty Hoppers faced the Sidwell Friends Quakers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Georgetown Day was beaten by Sidwell Friends 62-31. Georgetown Day's loss continues an unfortunate trend for the team, making it four in a row.
Acaden Lewis was his usual excellent self, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals for Sidwell Friends. Lewis is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Gillus, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Georgetown Day dropped their record down to 7-15 with that defeat, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Sidwell Friends, the victory was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-4.
Georgetown Day will be playing in front of their home fans against Avalon at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Avalon will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 229th in Maryland, while Georgetown Day is ranked 19th in District of Columbia). As for Sidwell Friends, they will head out on the road to take on Maret at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Sidwell Friends focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Thursday.
