Basketball Recap: American Gets the Win

American lost to Mourning back in December of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The American Patriots pulled ahead with a 39-38 photo finish over the Mourning Sharks. The Patriots' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead American to victory, but perhaps none more so than Allison Pena, who posted eight points in addition to 13 boards and seven blocks. The dominant performance gave Pena a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Anecia Momplaisir, who put up nine points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

When it comes to explaining why Mourning lost, don't look at Aayannah Berger. Despite the final result, she had 20 points. Berger is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauryn Castro, who posted ten points.

American's record is now 4-0. As for Mourning, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

American will host Westland Hialeah at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. American's defense has only allowed 26.2 points per game this season, so Westland Hialeah's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Mourning, they are taking a road trip to take on Ferguson at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Ferguson will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Mourning surely won't give up without a fight.
