Spearville is 9-1 against Skyline since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Lancers will take on the Thunderbirds at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Spearville will bounce into Thursday's match after beating Ellsworth, who they had gone 0-5 against in their five prior meetings. The Lancers put the hurt on the Bearcats with a sharp 16-6 victory on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Lancers, who have now won 11 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Cheyenne Ackerman was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Madison McGee, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.
Spearville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ellsworth only posted an OBP of .444.
Meanwhile, Skyline waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by a 13-5 margin over the Railroaders. That's two games straight that the Thunderbirds have won by exactly eight runs.
Corbin Armstrong spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits.
At the plate, Gaby Eubank was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Kooper Wesley, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Spearville is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That lines up perfectly with their 15-5 record this season. As for Skyline, their record is now 11-5.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Spearville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .496. However, it's not like Skyline struggles in that department as they've averaged .446. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
