The Broomfield Eagles entered their tilt with the Brighton Bulldogs with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Broomfield came out on top against Brighton by a score of 71-59 on Tuesday. Given Broomfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 41st, while Brighton is ranked 195th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Broomfield's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Blaes Kane led the charge by dropping a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Joey Cook, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Brighton saw an underclassman step up: Austin Sickler scored 23 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Vance Martinez was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds.
Broomfield is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. As for Brighton, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 13 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.
Broomfield will be playing at home against Loveland at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Broomfield will be up against Loveland's rather soft defense (which has allowed 62.06 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive showing. As for Brighton, they will play host again and welcome Fort Collins, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fort Collins knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 14 contests -- so hopefully Brighton likes a good challenge.
