Given Laurens Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while Richard Winn Academy is ranked 145th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Richard Winn Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Meagan Brigman, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and five blocks. Brigman scored a full 30.8% of Richard Winn Academy's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Delaney Young, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and five blocks.
Laurens Academy's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Richard Winn Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-3.
Laurens Academy will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Cambridge Academy at 6:00 p.m. Cambridge Academy will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Richard Winn Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Our Lady of the Rosary at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Our Lady of the Rosary comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
