The Newton-Conover Red Devils's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight defeat. They fell just short of West Lincoln by a score of 43-41. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Newton-Conover of the 40-28 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
Newton-Conover's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sara Sain, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds. Hadleigh Swagger was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Carolina Robinson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for West Lincoln, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Robinson is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinlyn Avery, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Newton-Conover dropped their record down to 6-16 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for West Lincoln, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-13.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newton-Conover will challenge Bunker Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Newton-Conover focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday. West Lincoln's road trip will continue as they head out to face East Burke at 6:30 p.m. on February 13th. East Burke has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,419 points over their last 20 matches.
