The William Floyd Colonials waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They managed a 48-42 win over Brentwood. That's another feather in the cap for William Floyd, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
William Floyd had a senior duo take command as Shy Hawkins dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds and Kayla Gilmore scored 18 points along with two steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Hawkins has scored at least a third of William Floyd's points. Kayden Meyer was another key contributor, scoring three points along with five rebounds.
William Floyd pushed their record up to 11-1 with that win, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Brentwood, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. William Floyd will take on Ward Melville at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Brentwood will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Walt Whitman at 4:30 p.m. on February 9th.
