Warren County and DeKalb County are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2018, but not for long. The Warren County Pioneers & Lady Pioneers will head out on the road to face off against the DeKalb County Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Warren County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Monday.
Warren County's 22-9 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They received a tough blow as they fell 44-25 to York Institute. While losing is never fun, Warren County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 230th, while York Institute is ranked 74th).
Despite their loss, Warren County saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Alexxia Verge, who scored 9 points along with 5 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all.
Meanwhile, DeKalb County came up short against Cannon County last Tuesday and fell 53-46. DeKalb County has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Cannon County's victory bumped their season record to 0-0 while Warren County's loss dropped theirs to 1-4.
Everything came up roses for Warren County against DeKalb County in their previous matchup back in January as the squad secured a 70-28 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Warren County since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
