Taft has won four straight games at home, while Mathis has won four straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Tuesday. The Greyhounds will host the Pirates at 7:00 p.m.
Taft easily dispatched West Oso on Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Greyhounds fell just short of Odem by a score of 7-5 on Friday. The Greyhounds' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Juliana Alaniz made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Mathis got the win against Aransas Pass on Friday by a conclusive 13-3. Considering the Pirates have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Angelina Hernandez was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Marivel Martinez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Mathis kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in four consecutive games.
Mathis is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Taft, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-9.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Taft hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .360. However, it's not like Mathis struggles in that department as they've averaged .466. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Taft couldn't quite finish off Mathis when the teams last played two weeks ago and fell 4-2. Will the Greyhounds have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
