After flying high against Decatur Central last Wednesday, Mt. Vernon came back down to earth. The Mt. Mt. Vernon's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gabby Thomas, who posted 14 points. Thomas is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Addison Bucksot was another key player, as she made all 6 shots she took for 12 points and six boards.
Even though they lost, Mt. Vernon was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Warren Central only racked up three assists.
Warren Central's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Denell Jacobs, who had 15 points in addition to eight rebounds and six steals. That's the most boards Jacobs has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Denaijah Jacobs, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Mt. Vernon's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-5. As for Warren Central, they pushed their record up to 13-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Mt. Vernon will venture away from home to take on Shelbyville at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Warren Central, they will challenge Lawrence Central at 6:30 p.m. on January 24th.
