Even though the Faith Baptist Contenders scored an imposing 63 points on Tuesday, the Vasquez Mustangs still came out on top. Vasquez walked away with a 73-63 win over Faith Baptist. The score was all tied up 34-34 at the break, but Vasquez was the better team in the second half.
Kristopher Horton was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. The match was his ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Gavin Battey, who scored 14 points along with five assists.
Vasquez has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. As for Faith Baptist, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vasquez and St. Monica Academy will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 11th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. St. Monica Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Vasquez likes a good challenge. As for Faith Baptist, they will be playing at home against Pilibos at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
