Olive Branch is 3-0 against Lake Cormorant since October of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Olive Branch Conquistadors will head out on the road to face off against the Lake Cormorant at 7:00 p.m. Olive Branch is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Friday, Olive Branch was the victim of a tough 49-27 loss at the hands of South Panola. While losing is never fun, Olive Branch can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 131st, while South Panola is ranked 17th).
The losing side was boosted by Ethan Bobo, who picked up 95 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 139 yards and three touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Jerry Wall III, who gained 118 total yards and a touchdown.
Lake Cormorant can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They strolled past Center Hill with points to spare, taking the game 24-7. The win was just what Lake Cormorant needed coming off of a 33-7 loss in their prior matchup.
Joshaun Williams had a dynamite game for Lake Cormorant, rushing for 204 yards and three touchdowns.
South Panola's win bumped their season record to 8-1 while Olive Branch's defeat dropped theirs to 2-7.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's contest: Olive Branch has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 148.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Lake Cormorant struggles in that department as they've been even better at 206.8 per game. It's looking like Thursday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Olive Branch strolled past Lake Cormorant in their previous matchup back in October of 2018 by a score of 17-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Olive Branch since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
