The Wayne Badgers struggled with assists on Thursday (the Panguitch Bobcats had 11 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Wayne was outmatched by Panguitch at home and fell 68-38. Wayne was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-14.
Wayne's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jake Batty, who scored six points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Lee, who scored seven points.
Panguitch had a senior duo take command as Cache Eyre scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and Justin Osburn scored 14 points. The matchup was Eyre's third in a row with at least ten points. Cameron Parkin was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds.
Wayne's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 8-8. As for Panguitch, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-3.
Wayne will head out on the road to face off against Escalante at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (Escalante is ranked 123rd, while Wayne is ranked 109th). As for Panguitch, they will be playing at home against Piute at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Piute is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
