The Morningside Academy Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight defeat. They fell just short of Merritt Island Christian by a score of 43-41. Morningside Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Merritt Island Christian apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Morningside Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being James Bolton, who scored 15 points. It was the first time this season that Bolton scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Elijah Bell, who scored 11 points.
Merritt Island Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Trey Nevad, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Willits, who scored 12 points.
Morningside Academy has not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-11 record this season. As for Merritt Island Christian, the win got them back to even at 9-9.
Morningside Academy is on the road again on Thursday and plays Pineapple Cove Classical Academy at 7:00 p.m. on February 8th. Hopefully Pineapple Cove Classical Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
