Baseball Recap: Xavier's Winning Streak Snapped at Five Games

Xavier dropped their record down to 5-6 on Monday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of Shawano Community. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against Shawano Community this season, with their most recent loss being a 15-10 defeat back in April.

As for Shawano Community, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games.

For Shawano Community's part, Ayden Bystol made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Bystol was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

In other batting news, Pete Bruette was incredible, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Shawano Community's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-4 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jerzy Brocker, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Xavier will head out to take on Fox Valley Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Shawano Community, they will venture away from home to face off against Menasha at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
