Basketball Recap: Mercer County Piles Up the Points Against Rock Falls

On Saturday, the Mercer County Golden Eagles were fully in charge, breezing past the Rock Falls Rockets 53-26. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Golden Eagles.

It was another big night for Molly Hofmann, who went 10 of 11 on her way to 22 points along with seven boards and three steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Teagan Taylor also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Mercer County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rock Falls only pulled down six offensive rebounds.

Despite the defeat, Rock Falls saw an underclassman step up: freshman Miley Bickett posted nine points in addition to five rebounds and five steals. Those five steals gave Bickett a new career-high.

Mercer County's record is now 11-12. As for Rock Falls, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 15 of their last 17 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-20 record this season.

Mercer County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 61-48 loss against Liberty on the 20th. As for Rock Falls, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 62-40 defeat against Rockford Christian on the 25th.
