Laney waltzed into their game on Tuesday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the North Brunswick Scorpions, sneaking past 7-5. That's two games straight that the Buccaneers have won by exactly two runs.

Brileigh Mathews was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bailey Bettencourt, who went 3-for-4 with three doubles and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Layla Carr was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Laney was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Brunswick only posted a batting average of .214.

Laney's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for North Brunswick, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-10 record this season.

Laney didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-0 win against Topsail on the 1st. As for North Brunswick, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 14-3 victory against Ashley on the 1st.
