Two dominant backs in Coy Miller and Ryland Kieth are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Farwell Steers will square off against the Ropes Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Farwell is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They strolled past Sudan with points to spare, taking the game 56-42. The Steers' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Kolson Allen was his usual excellent self, throwing for 271 yards and four TDs on only 19 passes, while also rushing for 99 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only seven carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 61 yards. Andrae Pullen also helped out as he racked up 126 receiving yards.
Farwell didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. Tak Miller was the real danger to the passing game, picking up two interceptions all by himself. Franklin Valle was another major factor on D, forcing one fumble and making 14 total tackles.
Meanwhile, Ropes entered their tilt with McCamey on Thursday with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. They claimed a resounding 76-6 victory over the Badgers. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 55-0.
Farwell better focus on containing Zayden Pittman and Jaivyth Cruz as the pair were huge in Ropes' win. Pittman gained 78 total yards and three touchdowns, while Cruz rushed for 116 yards and one score on only nine carries. Pittman didn't just play on offense: he also forced one fumble and made one tackle.
Ropes was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 244 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 170 rushing yards in nine consecutive matchups.
Ropes' defense made their presence known, laying out Antonio Galan nine times. Isaiah Acosta refused to say out of the backfield, picking up two sacks all by himself. Ropes received some extra help from Kaden Riker, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Farwell's record is now 7-3-1. As for Ropes, their record now sits at 10-1.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Farwell has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 185.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Ropes struggles in that department as they've been averaging 268.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Farwell was dealt a bruising 28-0 loss at the hands of Ropes in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. Can the Steers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
