Last Friday, everything came up roses for Canutillo at home against Jefferson as the team secured a 54-21 win. Given Canutillo's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 436th, while Jefferson is ranked 1433rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Burges had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They enjoyed a cozy 62-48 win over Jefferson on Tuesday.
Canutillo has been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 21-8 record this season. As for Burges, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-21.
Canutillo came out on top in a nail-biter against Burges when the teams last played back in January, sneaking past 69-66. Will Canutillo repeat their success, or does Burges have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
