Baseball Recap: Lyford Wins Going Away Against Rio Hondo

Lyford lost to Rio Hondo back in April of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. Lyford blew past Rio Hondo 11-1. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Lyford got a massive performance out of Diego Medina, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Medina a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Palmer, who scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Lyford's victory bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Rio Hondo, their defeat ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 12-6.

Coming up, Lyford will head out on the road to face off against Santa Rosa at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Santa Rosa has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed eight runs per game on average), something Lyford will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Rio Hondo, they will head out to challenge Hidalgo at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Rio Hondo 3.2, Hidalgo 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
