It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Orestimba Warriors had no problem doing just that on Friday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 49-14 victory over Le Grand. The win was familiar territory for Orestimba who now have seven in a row.
Juan Esquivez continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 460 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 17.0 yards per carry. Esquivez is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last seven games he's played.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Le Grand to a paltry 226 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Orestimba's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out three times before it was all said and done. Esquivez was especially locked on to Le Grand's QB and sacked him twice.
Despite the loss, Le Grand still got an impressive performance from Alexis Granados, who rushed for 91 yards and a touchdown, and also caught a touchdown.
Orestimba has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Le Grand, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 9-3.
Orestimba will face off against Ripon Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ripon Christian is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Le Grand does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
