Baseball Recap: Barnwell Triumphs

Barnwell hadn't done well against Hilton Head Island recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Sunday. The Barnwell Warhorses came out on top against the Hilton Head Island Seahawks by a score of 6-3. For the Warhorses, this counts as revenge for the 7-1 win the Seahawks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Case Davis and Cameron Austin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Davis tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Austin struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. At the plate, Davis scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-4, while Austin scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance gave Austin a new career-high in runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hayden Pierce, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Caiden Roland, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.

The victory made it two in a row for Barnwell and bumps their season record up to 2-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Hilton Head Island, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Barnwell will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Saluda at 6:00 p.m. on March 12th. As for Hilton Head Island, they will be taking part in a tournament against Andrews at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
