In what's become a running theme this season, the Winston Red Birds gave their fans yet another huge win on Monday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 61-34 victory over Southwest. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Winston.
When it comes to explaining why Southwest lost, one person who can't be blamed is Will Hughes. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Garrett Larson, who scored four points along with two blocks.
Winston pushed their record up to 8-8 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.3 points per game. As for Southwest, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Winston won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th. As for Southwest, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Bobcats at 12:00 p.m.
