West Cabarrus is 0-6 against Lake Norman since March of 2022 but things could change on Tuesday. The West Cabarrus Wolverines will challenge the Lake Norman Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with 19 losses in a row dating back to last season, West Cabarrus turned things around against Olympic on Friday. They blew past the Trojans 16-1. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Wolverines considering their two-run performance the match before.
Brooklyn Brower made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kamryn Weaks, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-2. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Ayana Baptist was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Lake Norman challenged Foard on Friday. Lake Norman narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Foard 7-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.
Charlee Kelly spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Lake Norman got a massive performance out of Vivian Billard, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Harris, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
West Cabarrus' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Lake Norman, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
West Cabarrus suffered a grim 16-6 defeat to Lake Norman when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can West Cabarrus avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
