The Campo Verde Coyotes will square off against the Desert Mountain Wolves at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Campo Verde is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Chaparral hit Campo Verde with a five-run seventh inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Coyotes took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Firebirds. The Coyotes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Josh Heilman was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, Campo Verde saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Xavier Roberson, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Desert Mountain came into Thursday's contest having lost nine straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They had just enough and edged out Arizona College Prep 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolves have posted since March 18th.
Davis Anderson looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
At the plate, Cole Sonne was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Roman Carrington was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Desert Mountain's victory bumped their record up to 10-14. As for Campo Verde, their loss dropped their record down to 12-10.
Everything went Campo Verde's way against Desert Mountain when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Campo Verde made off with a 7-1 win. Will the Coyotes repeat their success, or do the Wolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
