Basketball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Aldine

Aldine hadn't done well against Nimitz recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Aldine Mustangs came out on top in a nail-biter against the Nimitz Cougars, sneaking past 72-69. The victory was familiar territory for the Mustangs who have now won five games in a row.

Aldine's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jorge Castro, who almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine boards. The dominant performance gave Castro a new career-high in points. Joshua Green was another key player, going 5 of 11 on his way to 15 points and eight rebounds.

Aldine was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nimitz only racked up five assists.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Malachai Augustus, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. Augustus has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Joshua Coleman, who went 8 for 13 en route to 20 points and three steals.

Aldine is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.1 points per game. As for Nimitz, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 14-14 record.

Aldine didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-60 win against MacArthur on the 23rd. As for Nimitz, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 70-61 victory against Westfield on the 22nd.
